SEASONAL FLU VACCINE UPDATE (06/23/2016)

********THE CDC HAS RECOMMENDED KIDS NOT GET THE FLUMIST THIS YEAR (2016-2017).*********

Even though it's summer time, we have already begun to think about the upcoming flu season.  The CDC recommends that everyone receive the Flu vaccine, not just high risk individuals. What is different about the upcoming Flu vaccination season?  The CDC came out with a recommendation this week, which the American Academy of Pediatrics is in agreement with that kids should NOT receive the FluMist vaccine.  The research has shown it is not effective, children should receive the Flu shot.  We will only be giving Flu shots this year...sorry to disappoint the kiddo's.  You can read more about it here:

ANTIVIRALS:  (updates coming soon for the 2016-2017 Flu season)

We are receiving many phone calls from concerned parents inquiring about the antivirals, like Tamiflu, for their children.  Again, we are following the guidance of the CDC in our prescribing decisions.  To insure that the effectiveness of antivirals remain an option when indicated prescribing patterns need to be carefully evaluated.
