SEASONAL FLU VACCINE UPDATE
********THE AAP HAS RECOMMENDED THAT KIDS RECEIVE EITHER THE FLU SHOT OR THE FLUMIST.*********
Even though it's summer time, we have already begun to think about the upcoming flu season. The CDC recommends that everyone receive the Flu vaccine, not just high risk individuals. What is different about the upcoming Flu vaccination season? The AAP has recommended that all children 6 months of age and older receive either the flu shot or the FluMist. There are some restrictions however on who can receive the FluMist. Statement from the AAP:The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that all children ages 6 months and older are vaccinated for influenza for the 2021-2022 season, preferably by the end of October, with either the flu shot or the nasal spray vaccine.

We are receiving many phone calls from concerned parents inquiring about the antivirals, like Tamiflu, for their children. Again, we are following the guidance of the CDC in our prescribing decisions. To insure that the effectiveness of antivirals remain an option when indicated prescribing patterns need to be carefully evaluated.
